The valve is a pressure pipeline element, which is a device used to change the pipeline section and the flow direction of the medium. It is also used to control the pressure, flow and temperature of the conveyed medium. It has the functions of diversion, interception, regulation, prevention of backflow, diversion or overflow pressure relief, etc. It is widely used in various major fields of the national economy. It is an important equipment in energy, petrochemical, metallurgy, electric power and other industries.

Valves have a wide range of uses, and a variety of classification methods. In general, it can be divided into two categories:

categorydefinitionfor example
automatic valveValves that act by themselves depending on the ability of the medium(liquid, gas) itselfCheck valve, safety valve, regulating valve, steam trap, pressure reducing valve
actuated valveValves operated by manual, electric, hydraulic and pneumaticGate valve, globe valve, throttle valve, butterfly valve, ball valve, plug valve

1. The development history of valve industry in china

The valve industry in China started late. In the 1960s, it began to develop single-seat valves, double-seat valves and other products, mainly imitating the products of the former Soviet Union. Because the machinery industry is backward and the machining precision is low, the leakage of the product is relatively large, but it can still meet the general control requirements of the industrial production process at that time.

Since the 1970s, with the expansion of industrial production scale and the improvement of industrial process control requirements, some regulating valve products have been unable to meet the requirements of production process control, such as the control requirements for high pressure, low temperature, high temperature and corrosive media. To this end, some large petrochemical companies have introduced some control valves, such as sleeve valves with balanced spools, eccentric rotary valves, etc. Thess imported equipments has pointed out the development direction for control valve manufacturers. Therefore, in the late 1970s, some manufacturers have begun to imitate products such as eccentric rotary valves.

Beginning in the 1980s, with the implementation of the reform and opening up policy, China began to organize key enterprises to introduce advanced technologies and processing equipment such as design and process of similar foreign valve products, so that China’s valve manufacturing technology and product quality have been rapidly improved. For example, various types of sleeve valves and eccentric rotary valves were produced, and the development of fine and small control valves began.

In the 1990s, China’s regulating valve industry also began to develop rapidly after the introduction and digestion of foreign advanced technology, filling the blank of some special industrial control, improving the level of China’s regulating valve industry and shortening the gap with other countries. But on the whole, China’s valve manufacturing industry at that time was still dominated by basic casting.

After 2010, with the continuous acceleration of China’s economic construction, valve manufacturing enterprises gradually have enough capital to carry out high-tech research and development, and China’s valve manufacturing industry has begun to enter the process from low-end valve casting to mid- and high-end valve customized manufacturing. transformation process.

As of 2021, the annual output value of China’s valve industry has exceeded 30 billion US dollars for many years, and the industry growth rate is more than 6%.

At present, China’s key valve production enterprises have been able to design and manufacture various valves according to ISO international standards, DIN German standards, AWWA American standards and other international standards, and some manufacturers’ products have reached the international advanced level.

2. Market Scale and Export Status of China’s Valve Manufacturing Industry

According to the data disclosed by Global Industry Analysts Inc, as of the end of 2020, the market size of China’s valve manufacturing industry has jumped to the second place in the global total market size, reaching 17%, only less to the United States with a market share of 27%.

The main exporting countries of Chinese valves are the United States, Germany, Russia, Japan, the United Kingdom, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, and Italy.

The customs code for “other valves” is “84818040”. From the perspective of import and export volume, China’s export volume is about ten times the import volume. According to statistics, in 2021, the import volume of other valves in China will be 213 million sets, and the export volume will be 2.06 billion sets.

3. spatial distribution of valve industry in china

At present, most of the valve manufacturing enterprises in China are concentrated in relatively developed places such as the eastern coast. Among them, there are 3735 and 3697 valve manufacturing related enterprises in Jiangsu Province and Zhejiang Province respectively, ranking first and second in the country.
